A fascination with...

Rather an obsession of sorts..with weather, and with.....keep in mind I truly suck at math, quantum physics
The whole concept of Black Holes...and alternate time streams and the like
Mind boggling and fascinating.
If I had it all to do over again, I'd be a meteorologist. Weather is so changing and dynamic, and the forces of nature are so inevitable...
I'd love to study, participate in the study of weather and its dynamics.
No luck during this go round..I'm too old and too poor to follow that dream.
http://www.stormchaser.com/
This is a very cool site
This is Dr Greg Forbes. He specializes in severe weather.

Before I die

A life long dream of mine..and I mean since I was YOUNG..was to see the Northern Lights
The Aurora Borealis

Chiquita

Her fruit is rapidly ripening.
I'll take a picture tomorrow. At least half of the pineapple is yellowing...
She's the first to ripen..and naturally, she's the oldest..

Hurricane season forecast 2007

The full report can be found by clicking on the National Hurricane Center link on my blog home page.
This does not look good for a single mom and her 14 yr old lil one.
This is a pic of Wilma...the witch who damaged and destroyed so many of my plants..and my best friends house.
Remember faithful blog readers, the first day of the Hurricane Season is June 1, 2007
In seven days.
The year of Wilma, we had our first named system the first week of the season, and this year we've already had a named storm.

SUMMARY
NOAA’s 2007 Atlantic hurricane season outlook indicates a very high 75% chance of an above-normal hurricane season, a 20% chance of a near-normal season, and only a 5% chance of a below-normal season. This outlook is produced by scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center (CPC), National Hurricane Center (NHC), Hurricane Research Division (HRD), and Hydrometeorological Prediction Center (HPC). See NOAA definitions of above-, near-, and below-normal seasons.

The outlook calls for a very high likelihood of an above-normal hurricane season, with 13-17 named storms, 7-10 hurricanes, and 3-5 major hurricanes. The likely range of the ACE index is 125% to 210% of the median. This prediction signifies an expected sharp increase in activity from the near-normal season observed in 2006.

The prediction for an above-normal 2007 hurricane season reflects the expected combination of two main climate factors: 1) the continuation of conditions that have been conducive to above-normal Atlantic hurricane seasons since 1995, and 2) the strong likelihood of either ENSO-neutral or La NiƱa conditions in the tropical Pacific Ocean.

An updated Atlantic hurricane outlook will be issued in early August, which begins the peak (August-October) of the hurricane season.

Airplants

Purchased at Flamingo Gardens. You insert the stems into the fibers of the coco log and just let them be.
Mine hang from the Fiddlewood tree in the front yard.
After about three years...they are finally blooming.
Also about to bloom is an orchid in the back that I bought from Home Depot for 7$ about two or more years ago..a baby that was an experiment.
I don't even remember what kind of orchid it is any more..lol..but I'll look it up in my new book when it blooms..and of course post pics here for my blog faithful

For my love

The first blooms I've ever had on the airplants

The Presence of Love
by Samuel Taylor Coleridge

And in Life's noisiest hour,
There whispers still the ceaseless Love of Thee,
The heart's Self-solace and soliloquy.

You mould my Hopes, you fashion me within;
And to the leading Love-throb in the Heart
Thro' all my Being, thro' my pulse's beat;
You lie in all my many Thoughts, like Light,
Like the fair light of Dawn, or summer Eve
On rippling Stream, or cloud-reflecting Lake.

And looking to the Heaven, that bends above you,
How oft! I bless the Lot that made me love you.

Up and ready for work

Since I didn't win the lotto Jackpot this time...sigh..
Maybe next time?
My dream would be to have just enough money so I could stay home and garden, clean and take care of my girl, my man and my furkids..
Dream on sister!!

Robert Palmer

Absolutely adored him. One of the most talented singer/writer/producers in the music world who died WAY too young.
The blue eyed soul singer who I did get to see, at Radio City Music hall.
He was incredible.
This is one of my favorite songs, don't know why, its just Palmer..and I love it
Take a listen if you can find it..

Whats it take?
You're lonely can I see you
I hire a private red-eye rocket
But when I walk in here
You wanna go through all my pockets

What's it take?
Mamma what's it take?

I've known you all these years
And still you overhaul my letters
They don't confirm your fears
But when I'm dead you'll know me better

What's it take?
Mamma what's it take?

My mistake was thinking I had it covered
I haven't made the first move
What's it take to get it through to you mamma?
What does it take to love you?

I take you out to dinner
You ask me why I'm acting guilty
I thought I'd backed a winner
This love affair is gonna kill me

What's it take?
Mamma what's it take?

You say you're only teasing
I wanna try a new position
You wanna know the reason
I've got a Spanish Inquisition

What's it take?
Mamma what's it take?

My mistake was thinking I had it covered
I haven't made the first move
What's it take to get it through to you mamma?
What does it take to love you?

I wanna hear the gossip
You say I like a real ambition
I ask you if you've got it
You document my inhibitions

What's it take?
Mamma what's it take?
Mamma what's it take?
What's it take?

This is the dendrobium that lost the stem

My first orchid. This is a pic of her in full bloom during Hurricane Wilma
I never would have believed that orchids could thrive so easily with minimal care.
I literally do nothing to them. I think they are overdue for a feed, but other than that, they live in the yard and thrive

Dendrobium stalk

That I had to cut off my oldest orchid.
Damn..it is fixing to flower, and the base of the stem had a soft rotten place.
I placed it in water with growth stuff..and its in my foyer
I don't know if this will root or not..but I would have lost it eventually anyway.
Its mama was repotted
This did cause me to order a few books on orchids from amazon.com

Severe thunderstorm warning

And a weak cold front moving thru our area..
I just got home from the gym, to hear the NOAA radio warning us of a chance of thunderstorms.
Rainy season approaches....which is awesome.
We need the rain so badly, and they tightened the watering restrictions now to one day a week.
Tomorrow is my day. I need to get my buddy David to show me how to fix the sprinklers timer to go off only on sundays.
Yet again another thing I need to know how to do, that DH used to handle
I dreamed about him last night...don't remember what...but it sure as hell wasn't about SEX..
lol

Up way too early

To take lil one to her school for the end of the year trip
Today they are going to Disney World
Its a long one day trip, one of the nice things about living in the tropics.
They go on tour buses, and spend the day at the park. Its only about a three hr drive from here..four if traffic is bad.
I had to wait up for her to be dropped off last night by her dad and didn't get into bed into 11:30..up at 4:15
I hit snooze until 4:50 and now I'm sipping on coffee and just waiting for her to be ready.
She has to be at her school by 5:30
YAWN..
Then its back here to shower and dress myself for work
I hate leaving the boys home alone all day, but I have no choice,
But it sometimes allows a certain pair of puppies to pee in the house..courtesy of Jacks former bad example
Oh well..

Orchids

I repotted two of my dendrobriums today.
One was still blooming, and one was putting out a new shoot of growth.
Sadly, the new growth shoot had a stem that was rotting at the base. I put it in some water with growth hormone, not sure at all if that will work
Hence I then went onto Amazon.com and ordered a few basic books on orchids.
The other orchid that was blooming, kept tipping over in its tiny pot, so I placed it in a larger octagon shaped cedar box.
The plant that had the rot, I cut off the growth and placed it in the rooting medium and replanted the whole thing in a new cedar octagon.
The two small ones on the lower right corner, those are the one I bought from home depot in the bags..just for the heck of it. One of them looks to be flowering after over two years.
We'll see
As for the lovely purple blue plant..well I'm ashamed to admit I forget what it is..and when I checked the receipt the very very lazy young lady at Home Depot failed to charge me for it.
So..if anyone knows...post it for me..
All I remember is that it attracts butterflies..ergo...I bought it..lol
ADDENDUM FROM SEVERAL DAYS LATER..
Its a Salvia..

Hey, check out my new Neocounter..

Awesome set up with skins...I missed this part completely when initially setting it up
Think the skin is good for a tropical blog?
speaking of skin, I protect mine with two products.
Bullfrog 50 SPF for my face (sunscreen stick) and Coppertone sport SPF 30 for my body.
Even with this, I have a tan. But I am soooo white, I'd burn like bacon if I didn't use anything.
However, if we need to talk being WHITE..lol lol..
OOHHHHH Rhapsody????? LOL LOL..
Girl is so white you need sunglasses to look at her bare legs...
TTEEEEEE HEEEEEE...
Ahhh you know I luvya girl

Not feeling well update

ENT put me on yet another antibiotic, medrol dose pack (steroids) codeine cough syrup and ordered a ct scan of the sinuses.
He is not sure whats up with the illness..
Right now, honestly...I don't give a rats ass.
Wish I could just crawl under the covers and stay there forever.

Terrified today

As a victim of what I would call road rage..
Only he was riding a racing bike.
I had just pulled in my driveway when a man on a bike pulled up in front of me and I was unable to move .
He began yelling at me, that I almost ran him over, and didn't I know how to drive. I froze..pulled out my cell phone and dialed 911. He continued to rage at me, then rode around behind my truck and said..I've got your number bitch.
And of course, by the time the police arrived he was long long gone.
I told the policeman what happened..and he just shook his head and said..good luck. WTF DOES THAT MEAN?
I was crying, and said, it really was a waste of time for you to come here, he's long gone.
I could NOT stop crying, and I'm still shaky as a leaf and start crying again when I think about it.
I was so scared..terrified that he was going to physically attack me if I got out of the car, and I was also grateful that I hadn't yet gotten out of the car when he pulled into the driveway...because only God knows what he may have done.
Why do people do things like that? Feel free to attack other people?
I'm sure he'd be quite pleased to know I am a blubbering basket case, and that I'm afraid to leave the house right this second.
I'm glad Lil one wasn't with me..then we'd both be terrified.
Better it was just me..
OMG..lol..ice just clinked in my diet coke and I jumped ten feet..
I am just going to make some coffee, take my meds and relax as much as I can.
But I need to go out soon..

Garage cleaned up...and ready for the season

So I can get my explorer in the garage without delay.
Thats important during the rainy season, because the last thing I need is a vehicle damaged by golf ball sized hail
And when the hurricanes come, I roll my truck forward and press it against the garage door to keep it from buckling in.
It has some reinforcements, but not enough IMHO

The Saw Palmetto

Outside my screen room
Its gotten quite large, and I hate touching it because the very first time we trimmed it, DH failed to tell me of the saw teeth all along its stems.
I was the one hauling debris away, and without knowing any better, I quite firmly grasped the stems to gather them up.
Despite my gloves, the teeth pierced my hand VERY painfully.
I've had mixed feelings about it ever since. Not about DH tho, he should have warned me.
He just laughed and said I should have known better.

A lone Ibis

They usually travel is groups, this one stopped to take a drink at the foot of my driveway..
Also pictured here is my Cocofiber log with the native air plants on it.
I've had it for almost three years and the plants have put off flower shoots, but never flowered
This time there are numerous shoots, and I'm hoping this is the time it will bloom
I have the log hanging from the Fiddlewood tree in front of the house behind the Popcorn bush.

Hurricane link

For those who wish to keep up to date when I am threatened by a storm
I have added a new link to the National Hurricane Center
This can take you right to NOAA'S site to get the latest on any tropical formation.

And when I got home yesterday

I was greeted at the door with this sign..
And she cooked dinner for me.
She scrounged in the closets and came up with zitis.
We had no sauce, so she just used butter.
IT WAS DELICIOUS..
Made my day, my week as a matter of fact.
When I felt so down...it was a warm lovely thing

LAWN SERVICE LAWN SERVICE LAWN..

OOOOOOOOOOWOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO
Is here.
Rick, Lauras friend. He will do it regularly..
He said don't worry, I'll just put a bill in the mailbox at the end of the month..
What a load off my mind..
I'll take pics and add them to my blog after they are done

LATER..

Sweet surprise from Lil one

She got me chocolates, flowers and a teddy bear.
I had to laugh and hug her
Then reassured her...thank you honey, but YOU'RE STILL GROUNDED..
She had the grace to laugh and say..I know.
lets just say...its well deserved

For those new to my blog

The pic I show in my profile, was a pic I took one morning at sunrise...over the lake behind my house.
I think, and I'm no expert..that it is exceptionally beautiful
Whaddya think???
Heres another two from that same morning

HELLO..to all my blog visitors

Frankly, I'm astounded and amazed at the vast numbers of countries who have visited my blog
I hope you've stayed to read, perhaps enjoy my blog.
It isn't always nice..but I try most of the time to make it a good snip of my life here
Welcome all

Furkids healthy and vaccinated now

Thank god..
I always worry about them...
And since the separation and all the divorce stuff, I've been putting off their annual stuff
But its done, they are fine..and all is well
My god I'm relieved
I hadn't given them their heartworm medicine for several months. And thats something you need to do year round here.
I AM A BAD FUR MOMMY....
lol..I am so relieved...
Anyway, totally hypocritical public service request
Protect your pets from fleas ticks and heartworm along with all the other preventable diseases
It costs money, I just spent 221 dollars today on six months of flea and tick topical and a years worth of heart worm medicine.
But,,,,,they love us...without asking for anything but love in return
So its really a small price to pay.

Don't know who got more of a bath

The boys...or me...
WHEW...
I gave them baths today so they would be all nice for their vet visit this afternoon.
The fur that washed off Boy was AMAZING..and I suddenly realized that vs the normal every month or so I bathed them, I literally couldn't remember the last time I washed them both GOOD..
I got soaked, cause imagine, two ninety lb dogs who periodically SHAKE HARD during a hose down and wash. I need to use a small hand towel during, so that I can get everything wet and soapy cause they are so big
Fortunately, they enjoy the attention, and stand nice and still for baths even when they are being hosed down
I threw their beds in the wash, and their collars as well
We depart for the vets office at 1:30. I just open the back of the truck and they jump right in.
THEY ARE SUCH GOOD DOGS..
This is a wonderful picture I got off a 'hound site
http://www.greyhoundsonly.com/
For those of you interested in the MICHIGAN WISCONSIN AREAS

Shutdown part two

Full shutdown has been averted.
The failsafe system kicked in, and why?? I have no idea.
But he did. He put up with a major dose of my stupid shit and he's being NICE to me.
I am so ...that is so....I have no comparison for it.
Frankly awes the hell out of me.
From mine to yours baby

Subtropical storm Andrea

Does not bode well for the coming season.
Boss posted the Hurricane list yesterday, for everyone to update their information.
This season I am going to be alone here with lil one and the boys, so my plans will need to be thought out better.
The official season doesn't even start intil June 1st, and we have had our first named storm.
It was a sober awakening for me..
The only thing that prevented it from becoming tropical vs subtropical, was likely the fact that the water temperatures would not support a fully tropical system at this time of the year.
If it had been sept...we would have seen a massive storm, I've no doubt

"Gators"

You have to be careful of a few things other than the quite obvious.
Don't feed them, they will lose their natural fear of humans.
Don't mess with them, especially during breeding season . We are currently in breeding season.
This is the time when they often will appear in waterways where they did not live before.
I have not seen one in my lake, but then again my lake doesn't have the shelter I assoc with them like reeds, water plants etc..
This one was removed from a waterway near a grade school here.
Yesterday!!!

My Boys

Pretty boy has the grey face and white markings
Falcon is mostly black
Talk about unconditional love

Silence

is deafening
Is it not?

Shut down in progress

For self preservation and protection.....
Do not attempt to focus , don't touch the dial
The blogger will eventually be hermetically sealed and focused as best she can.
I've been doing a great deal of soul searching and thinking these last few days.
And in the process , feeling so alone that I have a literal pain inside.
I've cried, over wasted years...cried over wasted seconds..and wondered why my life has panned out the way it has.
I tried being upbeat and cheerful, but its hard to do that for someone, when there is noone THERE..at least 99% of the time. Its just me
I am here, will always be here..waiting.
I just don't know what to do any more. So I am inert, and frozen, and will do nothing but continue to wait
I love, I survive, I wait
And I understand nothing
But I am FINE..I have no choice BUT to be fine.
I'm very experienced at being fine.
So its all good

Sick..again?? still???

Had to call the Dr and get a prescription called in for Levaquin.
I am coughing, facial pain and generally all the symptoms of a sinus infection
Also made an appt to see Moms ENT , but he couldn't see me till next tuesday.
So..antibiotic again..
Had to also , recently, get an increase in my Toprol XL..so stressed that my BP was slightly elevated, so he increased me from 25 to 50mg.
Thats fine, I have no problem with that, I want it controlled during this enormously stressful time of my life.
Stayed up too late, briefly fell off the wagon..lol..and I'm paying for it
Not used to wine, and it hit me HARD..lol..
Thats ok..I'm back up on that lousy wagon today..and I'm going to the gym later too.
Doesn't matter any more if I'm sick or whatever..
I just keep going

Smoke day two

Is so bad that Alligator Alley is closed in both directions.
Water restrictions are expected to tighten, with lawn watering reduced to once a week

Smoke filled air here

Wild fires in Collier county and Georgia are being carried here in abundance by Northwest winds.
The air here is thick white with smoke, and ash falls from these far away fires.
Air quality is unhealthy, and I'm surprised the E.R wasn't busier at work today
Its tough to breath outside, thats for sure
I was going to try and tackle the lawn tomorrow, but I don't think I'll be able to due to the smoke, unless there is a major shift in the wind

Banking and Blockbuster

Well I had been putting off closing or dealing with a bank acct in both of our names.
I dreaded having to get him to commit to meeting me..
I went in to the bank to try and see if I could put it in his name alone, and the rep said why? just close it
1-2-3
Acct closed. I was the primary, so I was able to close it.
I was so worried about it....for nothing
Then I went to Blockbuster with the Lil one and realized, that I was still carrying the card for his acct..
I promptly pulled it off my keyring and opened my own acct.
You really don't realize how entangled your lifes are, until you try to separate them.
Thank God, I kept so many things in my name alone, or with me as the primary.
Otherwise, it would be much more complicated.
Slowly but surely....its all getting done.

Lawn service

I have to break down, and allot money every month now for a lawn service.
I simply can't handle the weed Whacker. Last time I used it, I was crippled for days with my arthritis in my shoulder.
You need to hold it at such an unnatural angle, at least I do..and that just put too much stress on my shoulder joint.
I am spending time mowing etc, that I could be using to garden, weed and enjoy the yard work.
Where I'm going to get the money from...LOL..I'll have to pray for it.
You see, during the rainy season and summer months, the St Augustine grass here grows about six inches a week..at least.
I can't keep up with it alone.
Its begun to so overgrow..and I whacked it all back not a few weeks ago.
Look at the way its creeping out onto the driveway, and over into a flower bed
I left a message for a guy my friend David recommended. If he doesn't call me back, I'll ask Gus, my neighbor if he can speak to his guy.
Sigh
Prayers welcome..and hugs too

The Worlds Fair 1964-65 Flushing Queens

The LORD Is My Shepherd

23The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green [1] pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest [2] my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
I put this in, because I am praying daily, it comforts me, and I hope someone is listening.

When I was a small child, my parents took me to the Worlds Fair
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1964_New_York_World's_Fair
This is a wonderful synopsis of the fair. But the one memory that stands out above all others, was seeing Michelangelos Pieta..
I don't know why, I just remember it. The room was dark, and I seem to recall that the statue was bathed in a soft light..red seems to be what I remember..
Anyone else?
The remnants of the fair stayed in Flushing for a very very long time, and could still be there, especially the sphere..

Severe weather last night

As the cold front approached, the NOAA weather alert radio didn't stop
We had two tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, and for safety I powered off the 'puter and put my truck in the garage to protect it from any potential hail
There was a funnel cloud sighting at Markham park, which is a few miles from here..but no touch down.
The photo I have here is a generic photo of a funnel cloud..noone got a pic of the one last night, not that I have seen yet anyway
Apparently two storms merged and created the danger..
I awoke this morning to a glorious morning..stiff breezy with dry cooler air..
ITS GORGEOUS outside..

Sunday, May 06, 2007

I got a lil sunburn today

Despite the SPF 30
Thats the tropics for ya..

Severe Thunderstorm watch...

Possible large hail and tornadoes..
Will be keeping a weather eye to the sky..

Jackson

I had to take Jack back.
He was listless, defecating in the house and I was frantic. He was destroying my house, but I didn't want to destroy Him
Poor Jack, he had a rough rough life.

Native air plants

My live oak is what I fondly refer to as my orchid tree
However, I took this pic yesterday, of one of my palm trees playing host to a native air plant
These plants do not harm the tree in any way, drawing all their nutrients from the air , wind and moisture around them. The tree simply provides a place to attach their roots and live
They bloom with tiny white flowers.
god I love it here.

One of my favorite things to do

http://www.miamimetrozoo.com/index.asp
I don't go often, but when I do, I enjoy every moment.
This is a fantastic zoo, where you walk around thru the countries of the world.
They include in the tour, explanations of how Hurricane Andrew destroyed parts of the zoo, and the recovery afterward.
One of the largest new exhibits that was replaced after Andrew, is the Aviary. It is amazing, beautiful, and a must see.
We went the summer it reopened.
If you venture down here to the sub tropics, you simply must make time to go to "The Zoo"
One of the fun things, when you go to the Chimpanzee area, they have a rope inside the compound. You stand on the X unwittingly giving the chimps inside a laugh.
They pull the rope, you get SOAKED by a shower..
My BIL knew what was going to happen, he did it anyway and we all laughed..
One of the first attractions you see is the home of the White Bengal Tiger. I have been there at least five times, and have yet to see the Bengals.
This zoo does not force its animals to be outside for our benefit, so its a matter of being there when they are out.
